The different models of the Protel PBX

There are three models of the Protel PBX at the lower-end. These include the Model 3510, Model 4515, and Model 5150. The models have been created to compete directly with Cisco, and even the costing calculator displays the costing calculator shows the differences between the 3510 and the 4515 against Cisco. Remember that Cisco does not have anything like the 5150 and it must be pieced together to create a size of the 5150. Within this family of the Protel PBX, there are variations also. The SMB and Enterprise models are designed and delivered using IBM iron. The SMB 6000 series requires the use of an IBM X series server, while the Enterprise 6000 requires the use of an IBM Series z Mainframe. These are detailed below and the different models. It is a good practice to understand where each model fits and how to size them according to the customer's requirements.

The Protel SOHO PBX model comes standard with all the capabilities of the other Protel models including full call record detail reporting. Measuring approximately 4 1/2" x 4 1/2" x 3/4" the unit can be wall mounted or placed on a shelf. The Protel SOHO PBX allows your company to have everything an enterprise has at a low cost that is unheard of in the industry. Starting at 10 extensions and growing to 20, it's the perfect solution for startups and off site locations. An add-on option will allow Cisco SCCP telephones. The price of the Protel PBX SOHO model starts at under $750.00 and allowing a full deployment with 4 telephones under $1,000.00. Ask your reseller about the new Protel SOHO PBX.

The Protel PBX Models 3510 and 4515

Each of these devices are in the same wall mount case when not using POTS/E1/T1/PRI. A model that ships with a CP or SP is a wall mount case, but has certain limitations based on being a 3510 or a 4515. For example, a 3510 Model SP or CP will have a maximum capacity of 4 POTS lines, or 1 E1/T1/PRI adapter. When configuring a system for a customer it is recommended, if a POTS/E1/T1/PRI adapter is required, you select the correct adapter for the application and growth, A 4515 Model SP or CP may expand to 16 POTS and also 2 E1/T1/PRI adapters. When selecting your system for a customer, make certain you have a full understanding of their growth.

Another option since there systems ship with a single 10/100 card network connection, you may wish to increase this to 3 additional gig adapters. This would provide 3 network connectivity ports for your implementation. These items may be added when ordering a Protel PBX. Field upgrades are allowed, but you will void the warranty. Please understand, that these are electronic components and can fail if handled incorrectly.

The Protel PBX Model 5150

The Protel Dialer is an enterprise class, call center suite in use by call centers from the smallest to the largest. The Protel Dialer is a full featured predictive dialer. The Protel PBX Model 5150

The Model 5150 does not include the POTS/E1/T1/PRI options. This system is meant for a company who has made a commitment to SIP as their delivery for voice. Since this system is aimed towards a smaller SMB environment with growth to 200 extensions you should only deploy this device in a company environment requiring addition growth. The 5150 provides 35 extensions to start and is available in both S and C models. When a company requires more expansion, or expansion with growth, it is recommended that your customer move to an SMB Model 6000 using the IBM System X platform.

The Protel PBX Model 6000 for both SMB and Enterprise markets

The SMB and Enterprise editions of the Protel PBX require servers with the SMB Model 600 using the HP Superdome systems, while the Enterprise ZC and ZS are also sold on the HP Superdome 2 systems with HP UX. Both servers allow you to expand your SMB and enterprise to 1500 extensions up to an unlimited amount of extensions. Combined with complete the nexSwitch, billing and call routing between company locations is trackable while lowering your total communications costs.

The SMB 6000 series starts with 100 extensions and grows to a total of 1500 extensions supporting both SIP alone or SIP with a combination of SCCP and SIP devices. Use of the SMB 6000 Model requires an HP Superdome 2 Series server, which is custom configured for the installation. Factors such as the type of installation and predictive dialers are considered as well as RAID for redundancy within the deployment.

An enterprise deployment requiring 1000 extensions or more, and at times more or less depending on the deployment may already have an HP Superdoem 2 Mainframe deployed in one or multiple locations throughout a global enterprise. Deploying the Protel Enterprise ZS and ZC PBX may use an existing deployed HP Superdome or additions of them depending on corporate requirements. Depending on an enterprise's deployment there may be a need to add or activate an engine and or memory.
